Get better skin in 2021 with these top tips
GET IN THE ROUTINE
1. COMMIT TO A ROUTINE
Setting a routine for yourself makes it more likely you’ll stick to your skincare, and that you’ll be able to experience benefits like clear, glowing skin and decreased fine lines and dark circles. Not sure what skincare routine is right for you? Take our new skincare quiz for a personalized recommendation.
2. KEEP YOUR ROUTINE SIMPLE
You don’t need a complicated skincare routine to get intense benefits. Picking a simple routine makes it more likely you’ll actually stick to it, and will save you time and effort. Overcomplication can also irritate sensitive skin - sometimes less is more! Check out Cardon’s simple skincare routines here, and get 30% off your first set if you sign up today!
3. WEAR SPF EVERY DAY - EVEN WHEN IT'S COLD OR CLOUDY
Wearing SPF every single day is the most important thing you can do to protect your skin against sun damage, skin cancer, and pre-mature aging. Even on days that you barely venture outside or the sun isn’t shining, don’t skip the SPF! Cardon’s SPF + Moisturizer is an award-winning customer favorite - if you’re tired of greasy or chalky sunscreen, this is the SPF for you. Read more about why you need SPF everyday here.
4. DON'T STOP THE SUN PROTECTION AT SPF
If you’re going to be out in the sun or outside somewhere bright, wear sunglasses or a hat in addition to SPF. You’ll be protecting your eyes and also helping to prevent fine lines.
5. MOISTURIZE BELOW YOUR CHIN
The skin on your neck is prone to the same skincare issues that you experience on your face. Moisturizing your neck can help to prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging. While you’re at it, extend your whole skincare routine to your neck!
6. PAT YOUR FACE DRY
After a shower or washing your face, it’s better to pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it. Patting your skin can help prevent irritation, especially if you have dry or sensitive skin.
7. SHAVE CAREFULLY
Shaving your face can help clear dead skin cells, but if you don’t do it carefully it can cause skin irritation, cuts, and ingrown hairs. Use a sharp razor and stick to a skincare routine to help prevent ingrowns. You can read more about how to get a better shave with skincare here.
UPGRADE YOUR SKINCARE
8. INVEST IN QUALITY PRODUCTS
Low-quality skincare products can actually damage your skin and cause more harm than good. If your skincare doesn’t have the right ingredients, you’re more likely to experience ineffective results, allergies, and increased irritation, breakouts, and dryness - here’s a roundup of skincare ingredients you should avoid. Cardon products are paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free, and made 100% cruelty free. We’re dedicated to bringing you the highest quality ingredients at the cutting edge of Korean skincare.
9. AVOID HARSH CHEMICALS IN YOUR SKINCARE
Unfortunately, the U.S. has very few laws regulating the skincare industry, which means some products have some seriously harmful ingredients. Korean skincare companies are held to a much higher standard, and we uphold that standard in all of our products. Stick to a trustworthy skincare brand that uses quality ingredients and avoids harsh chemicals.
10. EXPLORE A NEW SKINCARE INGREDIENT
Try adding a new high-potency skincare ingredient to your routine. One of our current favorites is Hyaluronic Acid, which is a great hydrator and can reduce the appearance of fine lines. Try Cardon’s Dark Circle Eye Rescue to help reduce dark circles, puffiness, and fine lines with Hyaluronic Acid! If you want to add another ingredient, niacinamide is another favorite.
11. TREAT YOURSELF WITH A SHEET MASK
Sheet masks are an excellent part of both self care and skincare routines. These Korean skincare favorites are jam-packed with vitamins and minerals, and help with irritation and hydration. Want to incorporate hydrating sheet masks into your winter skincare routine? Try Cardon’s Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil duo or the full-face Cactus Soothing Sheet Mask.
12. KEEP YOUR SKIN MOISTURIZED
Moisturizing your skin every day helps to battle wrinkles, soothe irritation, and control acne (because dry skin can clog up your pores). A common misconception is that oily skin doesn’t need moisturizer - oiliness is actually separate from skin hydration, and a moisturizer can even help regulate oil production (read more oily skin tips here). Cardon’s SPF + Moisturizer is lightweight and fast absorbing, and provides broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection.
EMBRACE HEALTHY HABITS
13. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Sleep is fantastic for your overall health, including your skin. Studies have found that sleep deprivation can negatively affect skin appearance. Shoot for 7-8 hours per night to avoid the dark circles!
Drinking enough water has loads of health benefits, and is also great for your skin. Start off your morning with a tall glass to get you started each day.
15. EAT HEALTHY
Eating too much sugar, processed foods, and fried foods can harm your skin. Cleaning up your eating habits can help with acne and anti-aging, and can even help prevent cancer.
16. DON'T SMOKE
If you’re a smoker, you can drastically improve your appearance by quitting smoking. When you quit smoking, your blood flow improves and your skin receives more nutrients and oxygen. New Year’s resolution anyone?
17. IMPROVE YOUR AIR QUALITY
Both outdoor and indoor pollutants can adversely affect your skin. Take a few minutes to change your air filters, and if you have dry skin consider getting a humidifier for your bedroom.
KEEP IT CLEAN18. CLEAN YOUR PHONE
Long talks on the phone can be fun, but leave your face covered in bacteria. Try taking your calls on speaker or with headphones, and make sure to wipe off your phone screen frequently.
19. WASH YOUR PILLOWCASE
Bacteria, oil, dirt, and sweat all build up on your pillowcase. This can cause allergies, acne, and other skin and hair damage. Aim to wash your pillowcases in hot water at least once a week!
20. STOP PICKING YOUR FACE
We know, we know - it can feel almost impossible to not pick at a pimple or a spot on your face. But doing so can cause your breakouts to get even worse, and can also lead to long-term hyperpigmentation and scarring.
21. WASH YOUR FACE MASK!
Every time you put on an unwashed mask, you’re putting bacteria, oil, and dirt from the previous time you wore it back on your skin. Wash your cloth masks regularly (you can hand wash masks with laundry soap, or pop it into your regular laundry). Need more maskne tips? Read this blog post.
